The Design

Usually, ACDC radios are cheap jobs, because Europe did not have DC nets anymore and the only motivation for the design was to save the cost of a power transformer. Therefore this radio surprised me: an ACDC design, well-built with heavy steel chassis, and an extra stage of RF amplification? The documentation gave me the answer: the radio is a ship reciever, and ships from time to time do have DC supply. The power may come from DC generators or batteries.

This Object

I bought this radio from Paul van Berlo after we repaired it together. Now it receives well, but after some time it developed an oscillation.

The inside photo clearly shows the three-ganged tuning capacitor and the large dropping resistor and rectifier. Also notice the sturdy mechanical design and the very tiny tuning indicator.
