The small unit contais just one circuit board with three transistors. A ten wire cable connects it to the back of the radio. The unit is not seen very often, and there is not much information about it around.

My unit comes with a metal strip with a screw; I think this is for mounting the unit, either during use or non use, but I could not find a spot on the set where I could fix the strip. The user manual of the Grundig Satellit 2100 solved the mystery. In the bottom of the radio, there is a special hole for fixing this strip, and then the SSB unit slides on it easily.
| Obtained | 4/2013 from Queen's Day flea market (Driebergen). |

| Condition | 8. |
| Value (est.) | 22€. |
| Sound sample | PLAY SOUND The stability of the SSB unit is quite good, and with some efford, stations can be heard. With 500W this guy comes in very readable, but his partner in Hilversum (20km from here) is unreadable. |
On the flea market I found a Grundig Satellit 2100, and got the much desired SSB Unit with it. The unit is the Zusatz 2000, produced for the Satellit 2000 and 2100. Apparently, the radios come with two different Intermediate Frequencies, namely 460kHz for most of Europe, and 452kHz for the Benelux (besides the first IF, 2000kHz). The Beat Freuency of the unit must match the second IF of the radio, so I retuned my Zusatz to 452kHz. The LSB and USB indications are the same for all bands, which isn't completely obvious. Frequency conversion by a local oscillator with frequency above the radio frequency (upper side conversion) reverses the side bands, so USB becomes LSB and LSB becomes USB. The Satellit 2000 and 2100 use single conversion with upper side injection on bands S1 and S2. On bands S3 through S10, double conversion is used with first upper side and then lower side injection. So, the SSB stations are reversed on all bands and operation is the samen. Compare this to the Satellit 3000, where the settings for LSB and USB are reversed for bands S1 and S2.
