The Design

In former days, FM broadcasting in Eastern Europe was in the 70 MHz range. Perhaps for this reason, the Chinese made this little set with the FM band running from 64MHz. It has the additional advantage that you can sell it as a five band set: it receives TV sound in channels 2 to 5. Disadvantage is that the FM dial is so cramped you can hardly find a station.

Over the past 50 years, a lot has remained the same in the design of transistor radios. It still is a plastic box with a circuit board, a speaker, and a battery compartment. Only the number of colored shapes soldered on the board (and their price) reduces from decade to decade.

Be careful to use this radio on mains: the vampire draw is 3W!!

This Object

The Chinese had a bad day when producing this, because the speaker wasn't well attached in the cabinet, and the volume control didn't work (bad soldering). Repairing this in my workshop was a matter of minutes.
