The Design

This book was published in Antwerp in 1943, a time when only few radio's were produced for the consumer market. The author is given as J. Luijckx, Radiotechnicus, and the publisher as "De Techniek - Antwerpen". It explains how superhet receivers work, giving numerous examples of circuits. The circuits are all very interesting and their description is entertaining, but to my surprise I found a lot of circuits rarely actually found in radio's. I know that Belgian manufacturers used, more often than Dutch ones, American parts, so it is not strange to explain the pentagrid. But the Harmonic Autodyne, come on!

There are also a lot of additional circuits, like for AGC, Bandwith control, automated frequency correction, dynamic compression or expansion, etc., hardly ever found in consumer sets, but not a single word on double conversion. In the end we find a list of almost all American and European radio's with their I.F.
