The Design
By 1960, Philips had perfected the art of producing good radio's using the standard "chip set" UCH81, UBF80, UCL82, UY89. It was also used in the bottom model B0X15U, and the later B2X40U and B3X40U. This model, with three bands and quite good sound quality, is one of the finest sets in this category. It is quite sensitive, so it works quite well already with the built in antenna's: ferrite rod for Long/Medium Wave, and plate antenna for Short Wave. So, all one needs to do after buying it, is carry it home, plug it, and turn on to play (when 65 years old, replace worn out capacitors first!). The construction is extremely simple: the chassis, a PCB, is mounted to the front, as are the speaker and tuning mechanism. To access the internal parts, all one needs to do is remove the back cover. To do so, you must unscrew four bolts in the back, take off the back a little, and unscrew the two leads to the plate antenna in the side panels.

This Object
The history of this set is unknow; on pickup, I learned I was offered at a church charity sale, but left over and so, offered on Marktplaats. That some of the decorative strips are gone is rather rule then exception, but they can be made from AliExpress nickle strip.Measuring the tubes, I found that the UCH81 is 10/10, the UBF80 is 10/10/10, the UCL82 is 10/10 and the UY89 is 10! So all tubes are as new; output tube kathode current is around 36mA.
