The Design

This B3X92A is identical to the B3X02A, which came out one year later, and is a very common radio. I had one before, that was just 40 years old, but this one is in better condition.

While most tube radio's have the LF part on the right and the RF section on the left, when seen from behind, this model is built the other way around.

This Object

I replaced a handful of capacitors and found R16 (feeding the AF amp) interrupted. Replacement (plus correcting the coupling capacitor I wrongly applied) brought the radio to life. Sensitivity was improved with a replacement of the ECC85 by a PCC88 and placing a better ECH81. The tuning eye EM84 was dead and I replaced that, too.

The thrift shop's suggestion to use the radio was to build in a bluetooth speaker and some christmas tree light bulbs, but I had something better in mind. First, of course, take it home on my bike, then a repair to make it work like it did 65 years ago.
