 Not many battery radios have as many as 8 tubes.  And even fewer consume as little power as this radio: the complete tube radio with 8 tubes including a tuning eye, consumes about 1W of battery power.  I run it from a 90V battery, from which it draws 8mA (0.7W) and from two 1.2 NiMH cells, giving about 250mA (0.3W).  The DL96 output tube has been the most efficient tube ever designed: it was able to deliver 1/3 of the power (filament plus plate) to the speaker.
