Taking the chassis out of the cabinet revealed the usual load of dust. There were various old paper capacitors of the ERO type, which I replaced before even thinking of plugging the radio in. Then, I removed the tubes and gave the set half its mains power (110V).

No DC on the filter caps... this looked bad for the rectifier, an old selenium piece. With some work I took it out, and replaced the inside by a modern silicium B400C1500 (1 euro) and put it all back together again.

Here is the rectifier's new content. After the repair, the radio produced a very good sound, probably because both the tweeters were still OK. I liked the sound and look of the set so much that, even though I don't care about magic eyes very much, I installed a new EM80.
